COGNITIVE MAPPING

COGNITIVE MAPPING

Cognitive map can be defined as mental images and concept that is built to visualise and assimilate information. They are also referred to as mental maps, mind maps, schemata and frames of reference.

The topic selected for the study was internal trade from plus one business studies and marketing from plus two business studies. First I prepared cognitive map of internal trade. This was a chapter with so many classification. First classification was that internal trade can be classified as wholesale trade and retail trade. In wholesale trade two sections involved functions and services of wholesalers. Retail trade is a major portion in that chapter it covers functions and services of retailer’s and types of retail trading. Retailers where classified as itinerant retailers and fixed shop retailers. This ends-with topic goods and service tax.

Then I prepared cognitive mapping on marketing this was from plus two business studies this chapter mainly deals with functions of marketing and elements of marketing mix. These elements were discussed in the entire chapter.

I choose these units because these topics include so many contents and which lead to confusion among learners and also all the topic in two chapter was interrelated. Through cognitive mapping student can easily recognise the relationship of the concepts and this can be understood and memorized by the learners

The app used for the construction of cognitive mapping was mimind. The cognitive map based on the units internal trade and marketing contains detailed information on the key concept, sub themes and activities. The cognitive map can help students as well as teachers grasp the material along with the links and connection. It helps students to see relationship between ideas or concept. It also helps memory recall and helped to clarify and structure ideas. It also encourages students to think creatively about the subject to a limited extent. Thus through the cognitive mapping techniques learners get a clear picture of the topic and they can identify key points of the topic easily
