                                             REPORT OF TEACHING PRACTICE

INTRODUCTION

The concept of Internship introduced in the two year B.Ed. course throughout the country is quite challenging one for all the teacher education institutions. The aim of internship program is to incorporate teaching skills among the student teachers.  Internship program is an effective way to give training to the student-teachers about real world of work. It give them an opportunity to integrate theory and practice, plan and deliver lessons properly, critically analyse their own and peers teaching styles and improve them in the light of feedback given by supervisors. Through this program they understand the role and responsibilities of professional teachers. Internship program also give them opportunity to understand different aspects of school program and improve their skills and abilities in teaching profession. An effective and improved internship program is required in developing student-teachers personalities as true professionals in field of education.

As part of the B.Ed. curriculum, our first phase teaching practice was started at 25/1/2021. Due to the prevailing conditions teaching practice was divided into peer to peer teaching and face to face teaching.

PEER TO PEER OFFLINE TEACHING

Peer to peer teaching has students take on a teaching role in a school setting in order to share their knowledge with other students. “Peer teaching can enhance learning by enabling learners to take responsibility for reviewing, organizing, and consolidating existing knowledge and material; understanding its basic structure; filling in the gaps; finding additional meanings; and reformulating knowledge into new conceptual frameworks’ (Dueck, 1993).”

Our offline peer teaching begins on 25/1/2021 and ends on 2/2/2021. It was really a wonderful experience to me. In peer teaching I covered 7 lesson transcripts in offline mode. the topics covered includes trade, industry and its types, scientific management and its objective, starting a business- basic factors, mail order houses, types of partners and types of partnership. My friends support me a lot in the successful completion of the peer teaching. Optional teacher and general teacher visited to watch our class and gave adequate feedback for us. These feedback help me to improve a lot in my way of teaching.

PEER TO PEER ONLINE TEACHING

The online peer teaching starts on 3/2/2021 and ends on 8/2/2021. The topic covered includes registration of partnership firm, delegation of authority, consumer protection and its importance, wholesaler and functions of wholesaler, types of channels, international business and its benefits, business ethics and its elements, and admission of a partner.

FACE TO FACE ONLINE TEACHING (7 lessons)

The second phase of face to face teaching practice was really an unforgettable one. It was a pleasant experience with my students and receives their love and affection. Face to face teaching starts on 9/2/2021.Their interest for the class itself a right motivation for me to prepare effectively for the class. Students are very responsive and they clear doubts adequately.  I used power-point presentation for my class. I got students of G.H.S.S palayamkunnu for face to face teaching. The school teacher allotted the chapter business services from class plus one.

First 7 lesson plans covered includes service, nature of services, banking and its types, commercial banks and its functions, e banking and its benefits, insurance and its functions and principles of insurance. In the topic types of banks I showed an innovative work  also.

FACE TO FACE ONLINE TEACHING (8 lessons)

In face to face teaching I also covered topics such as life insurance and its elements, life insurance and its types, fire insurance and its elements, marine insurance and its elements, postal services, telecom services, transportation warehousing and types of warehousing. This face to face teaching ends on 24/2/2021.

I tested them with achievement test on 26/2/2021 and diagnostic tests and provided remedial teaching. While conducting achievement test the students face difficulty in the area insurance. So from that area a diagnostic test was conducted. From the diagnostic test it was clear that they have some difficulty in the area principles of insurance. Then I provided remedial measures and conducted another test. In that test majority students score above 95%.

A group of attentive students was the main factor behind the success of the face-to-face online teaching. This experience boosted our confidence as we are capable of taking classes in the online and offline mode equally. The face to face teaching was ended on 24 /2/2021 with a test. During the teaching practice I understood that it was difficult to be a teacher and I am ready to struggle to overcome all the difficulties and challenges to become a successful teacher.

CONCLUSION

I have completed my 30 lesson transcripts, diagnostic test, innovative work, and achievement test. Our teachers gave valuable instructions for us and this will boost our confidence level. Our principal and optional teacher helps us a lot for the successful completion of the teaching practice. As a teacher trainee, I am very happy to complete my teaching practice successfully. It was a valuable experience for my future life and teaching profession. I hope to become a good teacher.

I improved a lot by this teaching practice. I improved my speaking skills. I put a lot of effort in my communication skill.  Students were most active while teaching with ICT. After diagnostic test I found some difficult section with students so I used remedial teaching for that. The experience and lessons that I learned from this internship will definitely strengthen me in the process of becoming an effective teacher.  Charts, pictures, flash cards and activity cards were used sufficiently
